Controversial Nigerian street-pop artist, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely known as Portable, was dramatically arrested on Sunday during a live video session, sparking massive reactions online. The arrest, carried out by law enforcement officials, left the singer visibly shocked and confused as he streamed the moment live.
According to Portable, the officers informed him they were acting based on a petition from Ilorin, Kwara State. “I no know wetin I do. Dem talk say dem come from Ilorin, say na petition,” Portable said in the now-viral video before being taken into custody.
Why Was Portable Arrested?
The Kwara State Police Command later confirmed the arrest, stating that it stemmed from a petition filed by Fuji musician Saheed Osupa. The petition accused Portable of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, and character assassination, all of which could lead to a breach of public peace.
In an official statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, explained that the arrest followed a valid warrant secured from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin after the allegations were thoroughly reviewed.

The petition borders on serious allegations which include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Police operatives reportedly apprehended Portable in Abeokuta, Ogun State, at about 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, and immediately transported him to Ilorin for further investigation.
Legal Action Underway
Upon arrival in Ilorin, Portable’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties. The police confirmed that arrangements are currently being made to charge him to court without delay.

Osupa had no choice but to involve law enforcement after repeated verbal attacks escalated into threats. No one is above the law.
